Iodhadh
Aicme: Ailm
Pronounced: ee-dah
Letter: I
Tree: Yew
Meaning: Death, rebirth, eternity & transformation
Use: Iodhadh is the natural ending of a cylce, a death that returns back to the first ogham, Beith, for rebirth. Iodhadh supports us as we earn our wisdom with age & enhances the eternal energetics of immortality. All things must die, yet all is eternal, is a magickal paradox of existence.
Traditionally, the letters of the ogham alphabet are engraved into stone or wood & read vertically, bottom to top. Each letter is associated with a tree (feda), making these symbols not only the means of written communication & record keeping in early Ireland, but also magical talisman, deeply rooted in the natural world & Celtic lore.
